FYI - CCHD - IN A NUTSHELL / Open Letter to US Bishops from Catholic Media Coalition

Dear Advocates for Life,

Attached is an open letter to the US Bishops regarding putting on hold the Catholic Campaign for Human Development collection, until it is thoroughly looking into.

The attached letter is a prudent step in making sure that our money from collection plates is used wisely and prudently.

The internet is filled with CCHD / USCCB / ACORN / SAUL ALINSKY connections that don't seem Christlike at all. Let's put a hold on things for a while. We have an IAF group, Metropolitan Alliance for the Common Good (MACG) a fixture in many parishes.

Also attached is a suggested two part mini flyer that can be used in the CCHD envelopes. It is just a suggestion for those who have asked. You can cut it in half or copy parts you feel explain your position. There is a hard copy at the bottom of the page also.

Many people are enclosing "acorns" in envelopes, or putting an explanation on the card to be sent back to the Archdiocese. Be creative...this is your money and it's been misused.

The Office of Justice and Peace has over $100,000 a year for salaries, benefits, travel for Cat Willett, and her supplies and handouts. And there is another "Inner Peace Retreat" coming just after the Tobin Lecture.

Let's get our priorities straight: there is still NO BUDGET for the Pro-Life Ministry in Oregon. Lives are being lost daily...35 Oregon children are killed by abortion each day, how many Catholic children does this include...this is a scandal that must also stop.

WHY WE WILL NOT GIVE TO THE CATHOLIC CAMPAIGN FOR HUMAN DEVELOPMENT

· The faithful in the pews who believe they are helping the poor actually assist groups that network with enemies of the Church using immoral tactics to force government and private organizations to embrace their questionable goals.

· Many other grant recipients follow the same model as ACORN. Which has been disfunded by National CCHD, but not in individual dioceses.

· Alinsky – type community organizations share 30-50% of the CCHD pie.

The fraud and financial mismanagement of ACORN was exposed recently

The Industrial Areas Foundation, Gamaliel, PICA, VOZ and others embrace the identical immoral philosophy that fueled the ACORN scandal.

Those goals often directly attack the family, especially its weakest members, which has a devastating impact on the poor.

What is particularly appalling is that millions of Catholic dollars were funneled directly into liberal coffers through the Catholic Campaign for Human Development (CCHD).



WE NEED TO BE GOOD STEWARDS OF OUR CATHOLIC COLLECTION PLATE MONEY
THEREFORE, WE WILL NOT PARTICIPATE…until there is a change.

· Freeze all grants pending a complete audit of beneficiaries.
· Funds go only to organizations that promote pro-life, pro-family, pro-marriage, pro-biblical morality.
· Permanently ban all funding to ACORN, IAF, and other Alinsky-style organizations that follow principles contrary to Catholic teaching.
· Permanently ban all funding of organizations that network with and advance pro-abortion, pro-homosexual policies.

· The Oregon Catholic laity is aware of who is on the decision-making team to eliminate conflict of interest.

· Realize that the Oregon Catholic laity is competent to distribute funds to help the needy and the funds used for paying salaries is really unnecessary.
