HB 2678: Permits licensed nurse practitioners to sterilize sixteen-year-old males. Who went to the Public Hearing from Archdiocese?

https://legiscan.com/OR/bill/HB2678/2015  Is the link to follow this bill.

In order to make things "even", i.e. giving males the same opportunity to make their own medical decisions.  Even having someone take them off of school grounds and get a vasectomy without their parent's or guardians knowledge. I was told that Planned Parenthood was involved.

This House Bill is sponsored by two men.   One of the men, Rep. Robert Nosse (D),"lives in SE Portland and with his husband Jim and their two children." "Rob attends St. Philip Neri Church, a progressive Catholic Church in SE Portland, where he serves on the Pastoral Council. In that role, Rob has worked to ensure all Portlanders feel welcome and affirmed, including gay Catholics."

This information is from his website http://robnosse.com/meet-rob when he ran for the House.

No one lobbied against this bill.  It had it's public hearing in early February with no response from the Archdiocese of Portland, no one.  It seems like a "done deal" and they keep undermining the family with no resistance.

We have to ask ourselves, does Roger Martin, who lobbies for many others, NOT want to put his reputation on line with legislators that might take "offense" at Catholic moral values?  One wonders.

Our Archbishop and new Auxiliary Bishop haven't seen anything like Oregon.

Carolyn, I immediately emailed Matt and asked what the archdiocese was doing about this bill. He emailed me back and said he never heard of it and I should contact Todd Cooer, who is in charge of the Oregon Catholic Conference. I emailed Matt back and said I don't. Work at the Chancery office, nor do I know Todd Cooper, but it seems like this is Matt's area and couldn't he ask Todd and let all the parish pro-life leaders know so we can share the info in our parishes.

I have had that response, (this isn't my area), before and disagree. If he is the Office of Life, he should pursue violations against Life, even if there is an overlap in committees or offices. At the parish level, different groups work together all the time. Why not at the archdiocesan level? Right now, we are putting together our annual whole-parish May Crowning of Mary at our pro-life garden statue of the Holy Family- what can be more pro-life than supporting Mary's Motherhood and the Family?? And Life is Sacred is working with R.E., Adult Faith Formation, our Evangelization Committee, and Liturgy Committee on this. "This is not my area" is not a good answer.

God bless you, Janice

Janice,

This is interesting since Matt Cato's Office of "life" Justice and Peace advertises the Advocacy Day at the Capitol for Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon.

You see, the Archdiocese still it locked into a progressive Democrat mindset with many employees.

I am trying to find the email I've had in 2003 when one of these people said, "We have think differently in Portland". This in response to voting for a pro-abortion candidate when there was an alternative. I'll keep looking.

Good Morning Carolyn,

Just read about jaw-dropping HB2678. Do you know of any letter to the AB being sent around for us to sign?
There is always more clout in numbers - that's why I'm asking. And what in the world is going on at St. Phillip's????

Easter blessings to you and yours,

Sheila,
A letter's a good idea.
God Bless you.

This particular bill HB2678 was filed "pre-session" which means that it is one of those favored to receive extra early attention. The two sponsors are listed as Robert Nosse (D) and Michael Dembrow (D). The bill was introduced in early January and there was a public hearing Feb. 16, 2015. No one spoke against the bill but it was highly praised by officials of Planned Parenthood, Oregon Nurses
Assoc.and others. In 2011, I became aware of a 2-page document available through the Oregon Health Authority which is a consent form for sterilization of girls and boys age 15-20. This permission paper even provides interpreters who "assist" young people in signing for sterilization. This permission sheet mentions that if the young person does not want to be sterilized, he/she will not suffer withdrawal or withholding of benefits provided by projects or programs receiving federal funds !!
You wonder about St. Phillip Neri Church and I have stories to tell about the homopromo coming from that particular church during attempts by Oregon Catholics and others to stop the promotion of homosexuality in our schools.I am willing to contact our new Archbishop Sample on this matter.

I am enclosing the link that you sent me when you first heard of this.

It does seem that this has been on the mind of the "Health Authority" for a while.

https://apps.state.or.us/Forms/Served/oe0742b.pdf

It is giving permission for 15 to 20 year old to get sterilized.

"Your decision at any time or withholding of any benefits not to be sterilized will not result in the withdrawalprovided by programs or projects receiving Federal funds."
