Using Our Lady of Guadalupe to Promote and Confuse in the Archdiocese of Portland

OPEN LETTER TO MATT CATO, Director of the Office of Justice and Peace of the Archdiocese of Portland.      Matt Cato email

Dear Matt,

The latest Catholic Sentinel had an article on VOZ.   Day Laborers/ Our Lady of Guadalupe   VOZ has anti-Catholic ideals (apart from the Catholics that might be in VOZ) Using the Blessed Mother confuses people.  This organization is not as it seems and using the Blessed Mother is very sad and desperate.

Matt Cato holding sign...
The list of allies on their webpage displays the heretical values that run VOZ.  The Blessed Mother is tainted by helping promote them.  Can you tell me please why we are still funding this?  (By the way, giving money for just a "part" of the group is still giving to the group through "fungible funding".)

The Archdiocese of Portland has given this organization money, publicity and credibility for ten years.  It looks like Oregon Catholics have to wait for their new Archbishop to be appointed who uses our collection plate monies in a prudent, thoughtful manner "obeying" the  rules of CCHD and the Church.

By the way, here is an article regarding the $64,000 on the average salaries for VOZ. Is this considered a poverty wage to the CCHD and Archdiocese of Portland?  Most Oregon Catholics would love to have that as a salary.

VOZ is also visible with the Occupy Portland movement. supported the Archdiocese of Portland.

Thanks for any response.

God Bless,
Carolyn Wendell

Our Lady of Guadalupe is used a lot- it's sad. No Latino would go to a church without her- so protestant churches looking for Latinos will put the icon there even though they don't care for her :(

Just an example (of many); one of VOZ’s listed allies is CAUSA. On the website of CAUSA, here are two quotes:

“CAUSA Oregon is committed to advancing equality for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) people because it is a part of our organizational values”…….
“By signing this pledge, I am joining the thousands of Oregonians who support extending civil marriage to committed gay and lesbian couples”

The Roman Catholic church does not agree with same-sex “marriage” for homosexuals. Why does Matt Cato ally our diocese with VOZ who in turn allies with organizations that teach anti-catholic beliefs ?

Thanks for your insight. It seem that Our Lady is being used by many to promote their issues. We can let this fact go by and be like the frog in a pot of cold water going to hot.

With the internet and Google, it's easy to see if groups and organizations are worth giving to and not helping evil flourish.

We can't afford to be lax with our hard earned money.

Have you ever seen a photo of Cato at a pro-life event?

That is the problem. And according to the Archdiocese, stopping capital punishment will be their priority.

This is nothing compared to abortions and euthanasia. It shows that hanging out with Ecumenical Ministries of Oregon (EMO)folks is watering down and eliminating the read teachings of the Church.

I bet that the Archdiocese of Portland does this to ride on the back of EMO and mingle their money.

Just having Matt Cato working so close to them says it all. The Archdiocese of Portland has to get out of EMO first of all to save the soul of Oregon Catholics.

Right here in Salem there is a clinic that Mexican women and girls are going to and
the Name of it is the Guadalupe Clinic. I talked with the doctor a year ago and told
him some of his clients were coming into St. Germaine saying they were taking
Depo as prescribed by him and they came to us wondering if they were pregnant??
I told him he should know that Depo could cause an abortion. He said he knew!!.
I said he needed to tell these women who are using it, that if they get pregnant it could abort their baby.
He said he was not worried, he would just send them to Planned Parenthhod to get an

I told Fr. Todd this and he put a meesage in English and Spanish in the bulletin
and a pulpit announcement too saying that the Guadalupe Clinic
has nothing to do with Our Lady or the catholic church. He said that the clinic doctoer
refers for abortion and prescribes contraception that could cause an abortion. i.e. Depo.
This was great, but we should repeat this message again so new women know the truth
about these deceitful sales tactics!!

The names for Our Lady; 'Our Lady of Guadalupe', 'Madonna', gives people a sense of security in their Faith.

We need to be more discerning to prevent being taken in by something sinister.

Thank you for yours in doing something and speaking up.

God Bless you with more Holy Boldness

So, I am praying that our new archbishop is as holy as Fr. Sampietro and that he follows the holy see! I ask this prayer in the name of Jesus Christ thru the Immaculate heart of Mary! Amen!

Dear Vocal,
Very insightful and charitably done. I hope your valid and important questions are not met with mute silence by the Archbishop or whoever should respond for him. The ongoing disobedience in action and words to the Pope and the Magisterium by many of our clergy and chancery employees give credence to so many people's opinion that we are in the middle of a schism far worse than the so called Protestant Reformation. At least most of the Protestants had the courage & honesty to leave instead of remaining like patently dishonest cowards of our time, cling to their salaries at the Faithful's expense, while patting each other on the backs and calling themselves Catholic, thus redefining vice as a virtue. To those dissenters, and wolves in sheep's clothing who fight against The Catholic Church from within or without, remember this; The gates of hell will never prevail against the One True, Holy, Catholic & Apostolic Church, because it is Christ's Church, not theirs. And for the Faithful Remnant, remember that Christ has already won! It simply remains for us to give our lives for Christ and His Church in Faithfulness, prayer, Corporal and Spiritual Works of Mercy, and the habitualized practice of the Cardinal Virtues of Faith, Hope & Charity. And we cannot forget our pledge of total fidelity to the teachings of the Magisterium and our Holy Father, the Pope!

Thank you for your kind words. Tour opinion is worth alot. T don't like to say anything against the Archdiocese. There are so any sneaky ways of hiding the truth of what's really going on there. It would seem like I'm a real malcontent, but I'm Mary Sunshine compared to all I know and don't say.
